Young Carers
What is A Young Carer?
A young carer is a child or young person (sometimes up to the age of 25) who, for example, might help to look after someone in their family who is ill, has a physical disability, mental health need, addiction or communication need.
A young carer might be helping more at home than most children. For example, practically helping with tasks, providing emotional support or helping with communication.
Some young carers have always been a young carer and some become a young carer when someone becomes unwell and things change at home. Sometimes parents or the young carer might not realise they are a young carer. School staff might not realise a pupil has a caring role at home.
